Updates

Occasionally, as new features are added to TaxCalc 2006 we will issue Taxcalc updates. TaxCalc is by default set to check for any updates each time you start the program.

If you are using a dial up internet connection, you may want to turn this feature off.

To do this in the program click on Tools > TaxCalc Update > TaxCalc Update enabled.

  • A 'tick' means that the program will check for updates automatically,
  • 'no tick' means that the program will not attempt to use the internet to check for updates automatically.

This feature can be turned 'on' or 'off' repeatedly as required.

At any time, whether you are on broadband or dial up, you can check to see if an update has been released by clicking on Tools > TaxCalc Update > Run TaxCalc Update now. (Dial up users, please connect to the internet first!)

Note: it is recommended that you check for updates, before filing your return to HMRC.

Why do I need to run Windows Update?

Windows Update is a tool that is supplied with all Microsoft operating systems after Windows 95. It allows a user to keep their computer up to date with all of the latest security fixes and Windows bugs that have been found since the original release of the operating system.

Problems with 'Step 3' of the single file import process

A small number of users have has a problem with "Browse" in 'Step 3' of the Single File import process in TaxCalc 2006.

Whilst this is rare, there is a workaround as follows:

  1. Create a new folder called 'Tax' in the 'C' drive of your pc (i.e 'C:\Tax').
  2. Copy your 2005 return from its current location and paste it into the new 'Tax' folder.
  3. Open TaxCalc 2006.
  4. Click on the 'Import' button.
  5. "Step 1:" Browse to and select the file you wish to import from 'C:\Tax' folder.
  6. "Step 2:" change the name if you wish to, or keep the default.
  7. "Step 3:" Type 'C:\Tax' into the space provided.
  8. Click the 'Start' button.

This should import the data and create your 2006 return correctly.

If you wish to move the file elsewhere, simply open the return and select 'File' and 'Save As' and choose a different folder.

You will then have two copies of the file within TaxCalc, however you can use the 'Delete' button to remove the unwanted file OR use the 'Refresh Clients' tool to refresh your list of returns as follows:

  1. Click on the 'Tools' menu and select 'Refresh Clients'.
  2. Select 'Browse' and highlight the folder that contains your returns in your preferred location.
  3. Click 'Ok'.
  4. Click 'Refresh'.

The list of returns should only be those contained in the selected folder when you refreshed.
